More than 150 illegal miners have been arrested during Operation Prosper at the Losberg Kloof Mine in Westonaria as authorities intensify efforts to combat illegal mining and organised crime.
The operation is a joint initiative involving the South African Police Service, the South African National Defence Force and Sibanye-Stillwater Protection Services.
According to authorities, the operation is aimed at dismantling illegal mining activities and tackling transnational organised crime networks operating in and around the mine.
Police said the operation remains ongoing, with further arrests and investigations expected as law enforcement continues its crackdown on illegal mining in the area.
