eNCA reveals that Mike van Wyk, CEO of Medicare24, has been subpoenaed to appear before the Madlanga Commission next week to give evidence.
Van Wyk previously spoke publicly in an exclusive interview with eNCA about his association with Vusimuzi Matlala, saying Matlala had approached him expressing interest in purchasing a Medicare24 franchise.
Medicare24 later became linked to the controversial R360 million SAPS/Medicare24 Tshwane District health risk management tender, which has since come under scrutiny and formed part of wider investigations.
According to allegations by the State, the tender was irregularly awarded to Matlala’s company despite concerns relating to licensing and compliance requirements.
The matter has already led to the arrest of several senior police officials as investigations continue.
Reports further indicate that the Commission is also expected to examine Van Wyk’s relationship with the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department in relation to allegations concerning unauthorised use of blue lights.
Van Wyk’s expected appearance is likely to become one of the closely watched moments in the Commission’s ongoing hearings.
