KwaZulu-Natal Transport MEC Siboniso Duma has instructed authorities to place the truck driver involved in the deadly M7 highway crash under strict police guard.
This follows a horrific multi-vehicle accident near Durban, where a truck reportedly lost control, collided with several vehicles, and overturned onto a car — killing a woman at the scene.
According to reports, the driver — believed to be from Zambia — is currently receiving medical treatment in hospital after being freed from the wreckage.
“From hospital to prison”
Duma has made it clear that once the driver is discharged, he must be taken directly into custody, as investigations into the cause of the crash continue.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the accident, but preliminary reports indicate the truck was carrying cargo and lost control before crashing into multiple vehicles.

Law enforcement officials are continuing their investigation into the circumstances leading up to the crash, which caused major traffic disruption and claimed a life.
The incident has once again raised concerns around truck safety, driver accountability, and road conditions on major routes like the M7.
