National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola says he believes he is innocent in the matter involving the controversial R360 million tender awarded to businessman Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala.
Facing PFMA Charges
Masemola is currently facing four counts of violating the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), linked to the awarding of the police health services tender.
“I Did What I Had To Do”
Speaking on the matter, Masemola said he does not believe he should be in this position.
He stated that he carried out his duties as required and maintains that he acted innocently throughout the process.
No Comment on President Discussions
Masemola also declined to disclose details of his conversations with President Cyril Ramaphosa regarding the case.
He said those discussions are private and remain between himself and the President.
Case Ongoing
The matter forms part of a broader investigation into alleged irregularities in the awarding of the R360 million tender. Court proceedings are expected to continue in the coming weeks.
