The accused in the brutal killing of seven members of a family in Mandeni, KwaZulu-Natal, have reportedly shown little emotion in court proceedings, with observers noting that the suspects appeared downcast and mostly looking at the floor during their court appearance.
The case relates to the shocking abduction and killing of members of the Monswamy family in the Newark area of Mandeni, a rural community on the north coast of KwaZulu-Natal.
According to earlier reports, the victims — including a businessman, his wife, their children, and relatives — were allegedly kidnapped from their home before being killed, with their bodies later discovered in the Melmoth area, more than 200 kilometres away. Investigations also revealed that money was transferred from victims’ accounts during the night of the attack, deepening suspicions of a coordinated criminal operation.
Police have since arrested multiple suspects, with authorities confirming that the case involves charges linked to kidnapping and multiple counts of murder.
Community members in Mandeni remain shaken, with residents describing the victims as well-known and respected in the area, and calling for swift justice. The provincial leadership has also condemned the killings, describing them as barbaric and deeply disturbing.
The case continues in court, where the accused are expected to remain in custody as investigations proceed.
