The identity of another woman whose body was discovered in Ekurhuleni has been confirmed as 32-year-old Itumeleng Kekana, who was reported missing on 17 July 2026.
Kekana is the second woman to be formally identified among the eight whose deaths are under investigation across Ekurhuleni.
Her body was discovered on 3 August near Great North Road, close to the Max informal settlement in Pomona, Kempton Park.
According to an earlier police report, Kekana’s body was found in bushes next to the road with multiple stab wounds. Her boyfriend, Lekgotla Gumede, identified her at the scene.
Kekana’s disappearance had prompted a desperate search by her family, who visited hospitals, clinics, mortuaries and police stations in the hope of finding her alive.
Her brother previously described the family’s devastation after learning that she had been found dead.
Kekana was laid to rest in QwaQwa on 22 August. She leaves behind a 14-year-old daughter.
Two of eight women identified
The confirmation of Kekana’s identity follows the identification of 38-year-old Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo, whose body was discovered in Rhodesfield after she disappeared while out for her routine run.
Police are investigating the deaths of eight women whose bodies have been found in different parts of Ekurhuleni since July.
The discoveries have prompted a major police operation involving detectives, forensic specialists, intelligence officers and other specialised units.
Acting Police Minister Professor Firoz Cachalia has announced intensified operations in Kempton Park, while police have offered a R400,000 reward for information that could lead to an arrest.
Authorities have cautioned that the eight deaths have not all been conclusively linked. Investigators are examining forensic evidence and the circumstances surrounding each case to establish whether any of them involve the same perpetrator or perpetrators.
The identification of Kekana provides further clarity about the victims, but questions remain about who killed her and whether her murder is connected to any of the other deaths.
Police continue to appeal for information that could assist their investigations.
