General Shadrack Sibiya has appeared in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court in Johannesburg over sexual offence allegations involving a 16-year-old girl and an 18-year-old woman.
Sibiya, 59, was arrested on Monday, 21 September, by members of the Commissions Recommendations Task Team.
According to SAPS, Sibiya is accused of sexually grooming a 16-year-old girl between July and August 2026.
He is also accused of raping an 18-year-old woman at a hotel in Sandton in May 2026. (SABC News)
Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane welcomed the arrest and condemned the allegations, saying police officers have a heightened responsibility to protect women and children.
“Rank, position or seniority cannot place anyone above the law,” Dimpane said.
The State has also raised concerns over an alleged attempt to evade the legal process and has asked that Sibiya be transferred to Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre.
His case has been postponed to 29 September 2026, meaning he will remain behind bars in the meantime.
The allegations against Sibiya have not been tested in court. He remains presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
