The family of Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo endured a heartbreaking moment on Monday afternoon when they formally identified her body.
Moselakgomo, 38, had been reported missing after leaving her Kempton Park home for a run. Her body was later discovered behind the Rhodesfield Hotel.
While her remains have been released to her family, four other women whose bodies were found in the Kempton Park area remain unidentified.
Gauteng Health Department spokesperson Steve Mabona said the identification process can take time, particularly when remains are badly injured or decomposed.
“Four are not identified. It’s only one that has been identified, which we have released to the family.”
Relatives are asked to assist with visual identification where possible. Further forensic testing may be required when the condition of a body makes visual identification difficult.
Mabona said officials were still completing the necessary processes to establish the identities of the three women.
The cases form part of ongoing investigations into the deaths of women in and around Kempton Park. Police have deployed a multidisciplinary team to examine the circumstances of each death and determine whether any of the cases are linked.
One suspect remains in custody in connection with the first body recovered in July.
