A 34-year-old foreign national is expected to appear before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court after being arrested in Wonderboompoort on multiple charges.
According to authorities, the suspect was arrested on Tuesday after he was allegedly found in possession of suspected stolen property valued at approximately R250,000.
Police have charged him with possession of suspected stolen property and contravening South Africa’s immigration laws.
It is further alleged that while officers were effecting the arrest, the suspect attempted to bribe police officers with R10,000 in an effort to avoid being taken into custody.
The alleged bribery attempt resulted in an additional charge being added against him.
The suspect remains in custody and is scheduled to make his first court appearance in Pretoria today.
Police have commended the officers involved in the arrest, saying the incident highlights the importance of maintaining integrity and refusing corruption.
Investigations into the origin of the recovered property are continuing.
