Five suspects have been arrested after a 25-year-old e-hailing driver was allegedly kidnapped, raped and held for ransom in Cape Town.
The driver reportedly believed he was meeting a woman he had met through his e-hailing work the previous week. Police said the two exchanged contact details and communicated before arranging to meet on Saturday, 12 September.
When the driver arrived, he was allegedly kidnapped by the group and raped by the two female suspects.
The suspects allegedly contacted his brother and demanded R4,000 for his release. His brother alerted police, who used the tracking system in the driver’s vehicle to locate him on Southampton Road in Heathfield.
Steenberg police rescued the driver and arrested two women, aged 23 and 34, and three male suspects, aged 16, 42 and 48.
The five suspects are expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 14 September.
