Newly appointed MK Party Deputy President Duduzane Zuma has made his first major public appearance in the role, addressing business leaders and political observers at the BizNews Conference (BNC#9) in the Drakensberg.
Zuma’s appearance comes barely a week after his appointment to the MK Party’s senior leadership, putting him in the spotlight as the party prepares for South Africa’s next political battle.
During the discussion, Zuma presented the MK Party’s position on some of the country’s most contentious economic issues, including land reform and the future of the South African Reserve Bank.
BizNews characterised his message to the business community as a call for the two sides to “meet halfway” on these issues.
Defending his father’s political legacy
One of the central themes of the BNC discussion was also the political legacy of his father, former president and MK Party leader Jacob Zuma.
The BizNews interview was framed around Duduzane’s argument that South Africans should be grateful for what Jacob Zuma contributed to the country, placing the younger Zuma in the position of defending his father’s record while outlining his own political outlook.
Duduzane’s elevation has generated considerable interest because it places him at the heart of a party led by his father.

A message to South African business
Speaking to an audience that included business figures, Zuma also addressed the often-strained relationship between South African business and the political positions associated with the MK Party.
His message was not simply directed at politicians. He challenged business to engage with the political realities facing the country, particularly around land ownership and economic transformation.
The discussion over land reform remains one of the most politically sensitive issues in South Africa, with parties differing sharply over questions of ownership, redistribution and expropriation.
Zuma’s appearance therefore offered an early indication of how he intends to present the MK Party to audiences beyond its traditional political base.
His first test in a new role
Duduzane’s BNC appearance comes at an important moment for the MK Party.
The party has undergone significant leadership changes as it prepares for the 2026 local government elections, while Jacob Zuma continues to exercise considerable authority over its direction.
Duduzane is now one of the most prominent figures in that leadership structure, and his performance at BNC#9 provided his first major opportunity to speak publicly from that position.
Whether he can translate the political profile associated with the Zuma name into a broader leadership role within the MK Party remains one of the questions that will follow him as the party moves towards the elections.
For now, his BNC appearance has firmly placed Duduzane Zuma back in the national political spotlight — this time not simply as Jacob Zuma’s son, but as a senior leader of one of South Africa’s fastest-growing political parties.
