North West businessman Brown Mogotsi has been denied bail for the fourth time, with the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court finding that he cannot be trusted.
Mogotsi has been in custody since his arrest in May and is facing charges linked to an alleged staged attempted assassination in Vosloorus in November 2025.
The charges include unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, discharging a firearm in a built-up area, perjury and defeating or obstructing the administration of justice.
His latest bail application was based on what his defence described as new facts, including addresses in Johannesburg and Mahikeng that his lawyers said could be verified.
The State opposed his release, arguing that the Johannesburg address did not constitute a new fact and that Mogotsi’s ability to change addresses raised concerns about his ability to evade trial. Prosecutors also previously raised allegations that he had attempted to interfere with a witness.
The latest ruling means Mogotsi will remain in custody as he awaits the continuation of his criminal case.
