Alleged criminal mastermind Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala will remain in custody at Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Centre until 13 May, following a ruling by the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court.
Matlala appeared in court on Monday, where it was decided that he would stay at the Pretoria facility to allow for ongoing consultations with his legal team.
Previous Transfer to Kokstad
Earlier this year, Matlala had been transferred to the Ebongweni Super Maximum Correctional Centre in Kokstad.
The move, which took place in December 2025, was confirmed by Correctional Services Minister Pieter Groenewald, who stated that standard procedures were followed.
However, the relocation led to legal challenges, with Matlala approaching the High Court, citing difficulties in consulting with his legal representatives due to the distance.
Charges Against Matlala
Matlala was arrested on charges of fraud and corruption linked to a R360 million police tender awarded in 2024.
The case continues to draw national attention as legal proceedings unfold
