The bail hearing of suspended police officer Fannie Nkosi is set to continue on Monday morning at the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court.
Nkosi was arrested earlier this month during a raid at his home carried out by a task team linked to the Madlanga Commission.
Charges Against Nkosi
He faces multiple charges, including:
- Defeating the ends of justice
- Theft of case dockets
- Firearm-related offences
Police allegedly recovered several dockets at his home, including one original docket that had reportedly gone missing 10 years ago.
State’s Allegations
The State alleges that Nkosi hid important case files to protect suspected criminals and interfere with ongoing investigations.
He has also been named as a key witness before the Madlanga Commission, where he was accused of acting as a middleman between alleged crime figures and senior police officials.
Bail Proceedings Continue
During last week’s proceedings, prosecutor Tholoana Sekhonyana indicated that the State needed more time to prepare, delaying the bail hearing.
Nkosi’s legal team is expected to continue presenting its rebuttal, challenging the State’s claims.
Detention Conditions
Nkosi has spent the past week in the general prison population after Magistrate Thandi Theledi overturned an earlier decision to place him in the hospital section.
The court ruled that concerns about his safety were not sufficient grounds for special detention conditions.
