KZN Police Commissioner Secures Urgent Interdict Against Durban Businessman

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has secured an urgent High Court interdict against businessman Calvin Mathibeli.

The Durban High Court has ordered Mathibeli to retract and apologise for statements alleging or implying that Mkhwanazi is corrupt, a criminal, or abusing his police authority.

Mkhwanazi argued that the claims constituted personal attacks on his integrity and reputation — allegations he has strongly denied.

In a widely circulated Facebook post, Mathibeli, the owner of Calvin and Family Security Services, accused the commissioner and the KwaZulu-Natal police of being captured by his business competitors. He further alleged that Mkhwanazi had issued instructions that he be shot and killed.

The court’s ruling now compels Mathibeli to withdraw the statements and issue a public apology, marking a significant legal development in the dispute.

Further proceedings may follow should either party challenge or expand on the court’s order.
