Suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner General Shadrack Sibiya and people linked to him are facing allegations that they attempted to intimidate a witness in the sexual offences case against him.
The State told the court that voice notes and videos had allegedly been sent to the witness, with messages purportedly aimed at persuading the witness to withdraw the case against Sibiya.
The State also told the court that another voice note was allegedly sent on Tuesday at around 2pm.
The allegations form part of the State’s concerns about Sibiya’s potential interference with witnesses and the legal process.
The State has previously raised concerns that Sibiya could attempt to evade the legal process, prompting prosecutors to seek his transfer to Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre.
Sibiya appeared in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday in connection with allegations that he sexually groomed a 16-year-old girl between July and August 2026 and allegedly raped an 18-year-old woman at a Sandton hotel in May.
SAPS announced Sibiya’s arrest on Monday, saying he was arrested by members of the Commissions Recommendations Task Team.
The allegations of witness intimidation have not been tested in court. Sibiya remains presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
