North West businessman Brown Mogotsi is expected back at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday morning, where judgment is due in his fourth attempt to secure bail.
Mogotsi has been in custody since his arrest in May and is seeking his release on what his defence has described as new facts.
The bail application relates to charges stemming from an alleged staged shooting in Vosloorus in November 2025. He faces charges including unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, discharging a firearm in a built-up area, defeating or obstructing the administration of justice and perjury.
The State alleges that Mogotsi staged an attempted assassination against himself and fired shots at his own vehicle before reporting that he had been attacked by occupants of another vehicle.
Mogotsi has denied the allegations and has challenged the State’s evidence, including CCTV footage that prosecutors say links him to the shooting.
The State has also raised allegations of a possible escape plan while Mogotsi was in custody, which he has denied.
The Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court postponed the latest bail proceedings to 22 September for judgment.
Mogotsi remains in custody pending the court’s decision.
