The family of the ninth woman whose body was discovered in Ekurhuleni on Thursday, 17 September, has identified her as 23-year-old Tebello, who lived in Vosloorus.
According to her brother, Tebello had been visiting her boyfriend in Villa Lisa when the events leading to her death occurred.
The family says a friend confirmed her identity following the discovery of a woman’s body in Villa Lisa Extension 4.
Earlier reports indicated that the body had been found semi-naked and wrapped in a sheet. Community members subsequently gathered at the scene as news of the discovery spread.
Tebello’s surname has not yet been provided, and police have not released further details about the circumstances surrounding her death.
It remains unclear when she was last seen alive, how she died or whether anyone has been arrested. There is no confirmed information implicating her boyfriend in the incident.
Ninth discovery since July
Police say Tebello’s body is the ninth woman’s body discovered in the Ekurhuleni region since July.
The discovery follows several other cases that have raised concern about women’s safety across the metro.
Three women from the earlier cases have been identified as Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo, 38; Itumeleng Kekana, 32; and Dineo Evelyn Motapane, 38.
Police have previously cautioned that the deaths have not all been conclusively linked. Investigators are examining each case to establish the circumstances and determine whether any involve the same perpetrator or perpetrators.
The latest information from Tebello’s family provides an identity for the ninth victim, but questions remain about what happened to her in Villa Lisa.
