The eight-year-old daughter of Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo is struggling to accept her mother’s death and continues to hope that police will find her alive.
Moselakgomo, 38, disappeared after leaving her Kempton Park home for a routine run. Her body was subsequently discovered in Rhodesfield and formally identified by her family at the Germiston Mortuary on Monday, 14 September 2026.
According to the family, the young girl has not yet come to terms with the fact that her mother will never return home.
Although she may be too young to fully understand what has happened, she knows that her mother should have returned from her run.
It was the child who first raised the alarm when Moselakgomo failed to return at her usual time. She alerted relatives, prompting the family to begin searching for her mother.
What started as concern over her delayed return ended in tragedy when Moselakgomo’s body was discovered.
The family says the child continues to hold on to the hope that police will find her mother alive, despite the confirmation of her death.
Family still waiting for answers
Moselakgomo is among the women whose deaths are being investigated following the discovery of eight bodies across Ekurhuleni.
Her family previously indicated that funeral arrangements would be finalised once the post-mortem examination and other police processes had been completed.
Police have deployed specialised investigative teams to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths and determine whether any of the cases are connected.
For Moselakgomo’s daughter, the loss remains difficult to comprehend as she continues to hope for her mother’s return.
