The body of a woman has been discovered in Kwa-Thema, bringing the number of women found dead across Ekurhuleni to six within approximately two months.
Details surrounding the latest discovery remain limited. The woman’s identity, the condition in which her body was found and the cause of her death have not yet been confirmed.
The discovery comes as police investigate the deaths of five women whose bodies were recently found in Kempton Park and neighbouring Olifantsfontein.
Police disclosed on Monday night that four of those five women had been sexually assaulted. Investigators could not make the same determination in the fifth case because the body was in an advanced state of decomposition.
Among the five victims is 38-year-old runner Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo, whose body was positively identified by her family at the Germiston mortuary.
Police have not indicated whether the Kwa-Thema case is connected to the five earlier deaths. Its inclusion brings the overall number of women’s bodies found across the Ekurhuleni metropolitan area during the two-month period to six, but any possible link remains subject to investigation.
A multidisciplinary police team is already investigating the earlier cases and working to determine whether they are connected or involve different perpetrators.
