Police say four of the five women whose bodies were discovered in Kempton Park and neighbouring Olifantsfontein had been sexually assaulted.
Deputy National Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Tebello Mosikili disclosed the findings during a briefing in Kempton Park on Monday night, 14 September 2026.
She said investigators could not make the same determination in the remaining case because the body was in an advanced state of decomposition.
“But the other four yes, the team can confirm that they were sexually molested.”
Mosikili’s remarks provide further details about the investigation into the five deaths. Whether the remaining woman was also sexually assaulted is still undetermined.
The bodies were discovered over approximately two months, with the latest found alongside a road in Olifantsfontein on Monday morning. Investigators are examining the circumstances of each death and whether the cases are connected. Police have not yet established a motive for the killings.
Among the victims is 38-year-old runner Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo, whose family positively identified her body at the Germiston mortuary on Monday. She had disappeared after leaving home for an afternoon run and leaves behind an eight-year-old daughter.
Mosikili also clarified the identification figures, saying two of the five women remained unidentified at the time of the briefing.
Police have deployed additional officers and specialist resources to support the investigation and improve security in the area. Mosikili said the cases were receiving priority attention and warned those responsible that police were pursuing them.
