The family of missing Gauteng woman Elizabeth Mokolo Moselakgomo is awaiting a formal identification process after a woman’s body was found in Kempton Park on Saturday, 12 September 2026.
The discovery near York Street has raised the possibility that the body could be that of the missing 38-year-old runner, affectionately known as “Tsontso”. However, neither the family nor police has confirmed the deceased woman’s identity.
Moselakgomo disappeared after leaving her Rhodesfield home for an afternoon run. The body found on Saturday was reportedly dressed in exercise clothing, but an official identification is still required before any connection can be confirmed.
Family spokesperson Dawn Gauden said the condition of the body and the late hour at which it was recovered prevented relatives from identifying it at the scene.
“Due to the injuries sustained and the late hour, Elizabeth’s family could not identify the body.”
The body was subsequently taken to a state mortuary, where Moselakgomo’s family is expected to conduct a formal identification on Monday.
The family has appealed to members of the public not to circulate claims that the body is Moselakgomo’s until the identification process has been completed and authorities issue an official confirmation.
The discovery is also being investigated as part of a wider police probe following the recovery of four women’s bodies around Kempton Park since July. Although investigators have noted similarities between the cases, police have not confirmed that the deaths are connected.
