The Democratic Alliance has announced a major reshuffle to its team in government, with John Steenhuisen moved from his role as Minister of Agriculture to a Deputy Minister position.
Steenhuisen will now serve as Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, replacing Alexandra Abrahams, while Willie Aucamp has been named as the new Minister of Agriculture.
The changes reportedly follow a request by DA leader Geordin Hill-Lewis, who said the renewed team is intended to strengthen the party’s contribution to the Government of National Unity.
According to the DA, one of Aucamp’s immediate priorities will be addressing the ongoing foot-and-mouth disease crisis, working with the agricultural sector and accelerating practical interventions to restore confidence and bring the situation under control.
The reshuffle forms part of broader changes to the DA’s ministerial and deputy ministerial representation in government.
