The Gauteng Provincial Government has placed Chief Inspector Samuel Mashaba, head of the Gauteng Traffic Police, on precautionary suspension with immediate effect pending a formal disciplinary process.
The decision follows admissions Mashaba reportedly made during proceedings before the Madlanga Commission.
According to the provincial government, the admissions raised concerns that his conduct may have breached public service regulations, departmental policies and applicable laws.
Authorities said the suspension is a precautionary administrative measure and forms part of processes intended to allow investigations and disciplinary proceedings to continue without interference.
