A joint intelligence-driven operation by the South African Police Service and the South African National Defence Force has led to the arrest of two foreign nationals found in possession of stolen military firearms in Mooiplaas.
According to authorities, the firearms are believed to be linked to the theft of weapons from a SANDF military base in April 2026.
The suspects were arrested during a targeted operation based on intelligence gathered by law enforcement agencies investigating the disappearance of the military weapons.
Police have confirmed that several charges have been opened against the suspects, including offences related to the unlawful possession of firearms and alleged violations of the Immigration Act.
The recovery of the weapons is regarded as a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the SANDF base theft, which raised concerns about military-grade firearms falling into criminal hands.
Authorities have indicated that investigations are continuing and that additional arrests have not been ruled out.
The suspects are expected to appear in court once formal charges have been finalised.
