A South African mother has shared her experience after undergoing a South African Social Security Agency audit, revealing that she has been instructed to repay child support grant money received over several years.
According to the woman, the audit found that she had continued receiving the Child Support Grant while employed and allegedly earning above the qualifying income threshold.
She claims SASSA informed her that she no longer qualified for the grant and has now been required to repay the money received since her child’s birth. The child is currently three years old.
The woman further stated that she was required to sign an Acknowledgement of Debt as part of the process.
Using her experience as a warning to others, she urged parents whose financial circumstances have changed to update their details with SASSA and, where necessary, discontinue grants for which they no longer qualify.
She cautioned that failing to disclose changes in income could result in audits and substantial repayment demands later on.
