New details have emerged in the bail proceedings of self-proclaimed SAPS informant Brown Mogotsi, with the court hearing allegations that he attempted to negotiate with the investigating officer in a manner interpreted as a possible bribe.
During proceedings, the investigating officer told the court that Mogotsi allegedly contacted him and asked what could be done for him not to oppose bail and to assist him in securing his release.
According to the investigator, he viewed the remarks as an attempt to offer a bribe.
The officer testified that he immediately rejected the suggestion.
The investigator reportedly told Mogotsi to not think he’s that kind of a cop, making it clear he would not entertain such discussions.
The revelations come as Mogotsi continues his bail application after being arrested over allegations linked to a staged shooting incident in Vosloorus, where authorities claim he falsely reported an assassination attempt against himself.
During proceedings, Mogotsi also shared details about his personal circumstances.
He told the court that he earns a monthly income of R32,000 and is a father of four children aged 21, 19, 16 and 4.
Mogotsi further revealed that he completed Grade 11 and also disclosed that he has a previous criminal conviction, telling the court that he was previously sentenced to two years in prison before later being released on parole.
The court is expected to continue hearing arguments as the matter unfolds.
