Police Link Brown Mogotsi Firearm to Murder and Attempted Murder Cases

Police say the firearm allegedly used in the “staged” shooting incident involving self-proclaimed SAPS informant Brown Mogotsi has now been linked to multiple serious violent crimes, including armed robbery, attempted murder and murder.

According to police, ballistic investigations have connected the firearm to an armed robbery with aggravating circumstances and attempted murder case in Roodepoort in 2020.

Authorities further allege that the same firearm was also linked to a murder in Eldorado Park, where a person was fatally shot at a local drinking spot, while another victim survived the attack, resulting in an attempted murder charge.

Despite the alleged links to serious crimes, police say they are still searching for the firearm, which has not yet been recovered.

Investigators also revealed that they have not ruled out the possibility that Mogotsi may not have acted alone in the alleged staging of an assassination attempt on his own life in Vosloorus.

Police say the motive behind the alleged staged shooting remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing to determine why the incident may have been orchestrated.

Mogotsi is currently facing charges including unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, discharging a firearm in a built-up area, defeating the ends of justice and perjury, after authorities alleged he falsely claimed that unknown gunmen had shot at his vehicle.
