Brown Mogotsi’s legal representative says his client is not coping well in police custody following his arrest on Friday evening over allegations that he staged an assassination attempt in Vosloorus.
Speaking on the matter, Mogotsi’s lawyer said his client has been struggling since being detained and revealed that he had to take extra clothes for him to change into, as Mogotsi was still wearing the red suit he had on when police arrested him.
According to the lawyer, Mogotsi was reportedly feeling cold in the police cells, prompting the visit to bring him warmer clothing.
The lawyer further claimed that the legal team had no prior knowledge that their client would be arrested, insisting they had always been willing to cooperate with authorities if needed.
He described the arrest as an “ambush” by SAPS, saying the legal team was caught completely off guard when police detained Mogotsi shortly after he concluded his testimony before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
Mogotsi was arrested on allegations that he falsely reported an assassination attempt in Vosloorus, with investigators also alleging that the firearm linked to the shooting of his vehicle is connected to serious crimes including murder and attempted murder.
He is expected to appear before the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
