National Coloured Congress leader and Member of Parliament Fadiel Adams has been arrested after failing to present himself at a police station as instructed.
Adams had been wanted by the Political Killings Task Team, led by Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, after police issued a call for him to surrender.
Officers arrived at his residence in the Parliamentary Village on Tuesday morning and effected the arrest after he did not hand himself over.
The South African Police Service had earlier urged Adams to report to the nearest police station in connection with charges of fraud and defeating the ends of justice, linked to the 2017 murder of ANC politician Sindiso Magaqa.
Adams said he had anticipated the arrest, adding that he had written to police about three weeks ago indicating his willingness to cooperate, but requested that the Political Killings Task Team not be sent to his home.
Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said authorities had expected Adams to do the right thing as a Member of Parliament.
