Seven Family Members Kidnapped and Murdered in KZN Horror Attack

A devastating case has shaken KwaZulu-Natal after seven members of the same family were kidnapped and brutally murdered.

What Happened

According to police reports, the victims were abducted from their home in Newtown, Newark (Mandeni area) on the night of 21 April 2026.  

Their bodies were later discovered the following day in Melmoth, roughly 200km away.  

Authorities confirmed that:

  • Some victims were shot, while others were stabbed
  • A 20-year-old woman was sexually assaulted during the ordeal  

How the Crime Unfolded

Investigations revealed that:

  • The suspects allegedly broke into the home and tied up the family
  • The victims were forced into their own vehicle and driven away
  • They were allegedly made to hand over bank details and PINs, with money withdrawn before the killings  

Arrests Made

Police have arrested three suspects, aged between 21 and 28:

  • At least one suspect was known to the family and had previously worked for them  
  • The suspects were found with items belonging to the victims, including cellphones and a firearm

They are expected to appear in court on Friday.

The victims have been identified as:

  • Allen Monswamy (52)
  • Sandy Monswamy (57)
  • Kraidon Monswamy (26)
  • Shamaria Monswamy (20)
  • Gonosagren Padayachee (51)
  • Mooniamma Padayachee (78)
  • Mariama Happanah (83)  

Motive Still Unclear

While the exact motive remains under investigation, early indications suggest the attack may have involved robbery and premeditation, given the forced withdrawals and the suspects’ prior connection to the family.

KwaZulu-Natal authorities have described the killings as barbaric, with the community left in shock.
