A 19-year-old pupil identified as Sphelele Ngubane has been shot and killed at Ndengezi High School in KwaNdengezi, Durban, in a shooting that took place on the school premises on Monday.
Ngubane, a Grade 9 pupil from Oaklands in KwaNdengezi, was shot several times and died following the attack.
According to information surrounding the shooting, the gunman allegedly entered the school wearing a school uniform and with his face covered, leaving only his eyes visible.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting, including how the gunman gained access to the school and the motive for the killing, remain unclear.
Ngubane’s father, Sthembiso Ngcobo, said he received a call from the school informing him that his son had been shot.
Police are investigating the killing, while the person responsible for the shooting has yet to be publicly identified.
